Chrome update closes three browser gaps – PC-WELT

On October 22nd, Google released the new Chrome versions 130.0.6723.69/70 for Windows and macOS and 130.0.6723.69 for Linux. With this, Google’s programmers are fixing three security gaps in the browser that have apparently not yet been exploited for attacks. Manufacturers of other Chromium-based browsers are likely to quickly follow suit.

In the Chrome Release Blog, Daniel Yip lists the three security vulnerabilities that have been fixed. All were discovered by external security researchers and reported to Google. Google considers all three vulnerabilities to be high risk. In two cases it concerns the series hit “Type confusion in the Javascript engine V8”. Google has not yet provided any information about the bug bonuses for those who discover the gaps (“TBD”: to be determined – is still being decided).

▶The latest security updates

Last week, Google Chrome released 130 and patched 17 security holes with the first edition. Chrome usually updates itself automatically when a new version is available. With the menu entry » Help » About Google Chrome (Alternatively: » Settings » About Google Chrome), you can trigger the update check manually. Google Chrome 131 will be released in mid-November.

Other Chromium based browser

The manufacturers of other Chromium-based browsers are now once again being asked to follow suit with updates as soon as possible. Only Brave and Microsoft (Edge) have already switched to Chromium 130. You are at the security level of the previous week. Vivaldi is close to completing its browser version 7.0 based on Chromium 130: Vivaldi 7.0 RC 1 (Release Candidate 1) is already available.

The developers aren’t ready for Opera yet: The current version is Opera 114, which still contains Chromium 128. Opera 115 based on Chromium 129 will probably move from the developer to the beta test channel shortly, as Opera 116 (with the current Chromium version) is following suit. However, it will probably be some time before Opera 116 is released based on Chromium 130.
