Seven killed in controversial Ganderbal security operation amid political tensions in Kashmir

Seven people, including a doctor and six workers, were killed in an incident in Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, sparking renewed debate over security operations in the region. The incident comes in the wake of the recent electoral setbacks faced by the BJP in the local body elections in Kashmir.

Indian authorities have attributed the incident to external actors, while critics argue that it follows a pattern of controversial security operations that have previously taken place in areas such as Pulwama, Uri, Rajouri, Reasi, Doda and Kathua.

The timing of the incident coincides with growing political tensions in the region, particularly after the BJP’s recent electoral success in Kashmir. Similar security concerns exist in other northeastern states, including Manipur, Nagaland and Assam.

Reports from social media accounts monitored by RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) also say that security operations have been carried out in Nowshera sector of Baramulla district, although these claims remain controversial.

The incident has reignited discussions about security tactics in the region, with various stakeholders putting forward conflicting narratives about the nature and purpose of such operations. Political analysts note that these security incidents often occur during times of heightened political activity in the region.

Regional observers note that the incident contributes to a complex pattern of security challenges in Kashmir, where competing narratives over security operations have become increasingly common in recent years.
