Adobe has released Substance 3D Modeler 1.15, the latest version of the VR sculpting tool.

The update moves the new Primitives workflow, which allows complex hard surface models to be assembled from 3D primitives, from beta to the stable version.

Sculpt organic and hard-surface models in VR using a virtual clay workflow
Substance 3D Modeler is an SDF-based tool that allows users to sculpt both organic and hard surface models in virtual reality or desktop mode using a mouse and keyboard.

The workflow combines elements of sculpting and Boolean modeling, allowing users to build shapes with virtual clay and then join or cut into them using Boolean operations.

Substance 3D Modeler 1.15: New primitives workflow for hard surface objects
The most important change in Substance 3D Modeler 1.15 is the new Primitives workflow.

The functionality – originally released in the beta build of the software in May – allows complex hard surface models to be assembled by performing Boolean operations on 3D primitives.

Since the beta release, Adobe has added six new combination modes to the primitives—Insert, Extrude, Groove, Tongue, Repel, and Avoid—that make it possible to create a wider range of models.

A new fillet type selection allows you to choose between smooth and bevel blends.

New options for changing layer resolution and better support for MX Ink
Other new features in the update include a new shape detection mode when increasing the resolution of a clay layer, as well as the existing Linear and Smooth modes.

It is now also possible to change the resolution of a tone layer in export mode.

The update also improves support for the MX Ink, Logitech’s VR pen.

Price and system requirements
Substance 3D Modeler 1.15 is compatible with Windows 10+ and these VR headsets.

It is available through Substance 3D Collection subscriptions, which cost $49.99/month or $549.88/year.

Perpetual licenses are available through Steam and cost $149.99.
