Pairings announced for American Athletic Conference singles tennis championships

IRVING, Texas – Pablo Alemany of Memphis and Victoria Gomez O’Hayon of Florida Atlantic were named No. 1 singles seeds at the 2024 American Athletic Conference Individual Tennis Championships, which begin Thursday at Rice University’s George R. Brown Tennis Center.

The American Individual Championships will be held for the first time in 2024 as the conference determines the men’s and women’s singles and doubles champions. The singles and doubles champions will represent the American Athletic Conference at the ITA Conference Masters Championships November 7-10 in Rome, Georgia.

Two singles players and one doubles tandem from each of the 11 men’s teams and 13 women’s teams in the American Athletic Conference will compete for the singles titles.

The top seed in the men’s doubles is Charlotte’s tandem Vasco Prata and Matias Iturbe, who are ranked No. 9 in the ITA preseason rankings. The No. 1 seed in women’s doubles is the duo Millie-Mae Matthews and Malwina Rowinska from Florida Atlantic.

First round matches in singles and doubles begin on Thursday, October 24, while the round of 16 in singles ends on Thursday afternoon. The singles and doubles quarterfinals will be played on Friday, October 25, followed by the semifinals on Saturday and the championship final on Sunday.

There will also be consolation rounds in men’s and women’s singles, giving each student-athlete the opportunity to play at least two matches.
