Cause of structure fire in Rice Lake under investigation

RICE LAKE, Wis. (WEAU) – The cause of a structure fire in Rice Lake is under investigation.

According to a news release from the Rice Lake Fire Department, on October 17, 2024, at approximately 3:40 p.m., the Rice Lake Fire Department responded to a report of a structure on fire at 17 East Messenger Street in the Town of Rice Lake. The building housed the warehouse of Kitchen and Floor Décor, Finewood Inc., Cheese Louise and Agonic Brewing.

The press release states that upon arrival, emergency crews found a multi-story building with the south and east decks completely engulfed in flames and smoke, as well as flames coming from the second floor on the south side.

Crews began attacking the fire.

According to the news release, the fire spread to grass and a fence on the north side of the property, as well as flower beds at 11 East Newton Street, one block north of the incident.

The fire was brought under control around 6:56 p.m

A firefighter suffered an arm injury.

The building and contents are a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
