The police investigation determined that there was no shooting near Lewisville elementary schools

11:52 a.m. Oct. 23, 2024: Revised to include the latest information from police, including that there has been no shooting.

Two Lewisville elementary schools kept students inside their buildings Wednesday morning after an incident nearby sparked a large police response.

Police initially said officers were investigating a shooting in the 500 block of South Mill Street that was localized, Lewisville police said in a news release around 8:40 a.m

Later that morning, police said they arrived to find a man with “significant head trauma,” but when he was taken to the hospital, it was determined his injury was likely related to a fall from a balcony, according to an updated news release .

Investigators are working to determine how and why the man fell from the balcony.

A heavy police presence remained in the area as officers investigated.

Nearby schools, Central Elementary and Mill Street Elementary, kept students indoors out of “an abundance of caution” but otherwise operated as normal, a Lewisville ISD spokesman said.
