A suspected drunk driver is seen on video narrowly passing Kamala Harris’ motorcade in Milwaukee

A suspected drunk driver narrowly missed Vice President Kamala Harris’ motorcade in Milwaukee on Monday evening.

The wrong-way driver was traveling west on an eastbound shoulder of Interstate 94 as Harris’ motorcade headed into the lane, said James Burnett, spokesman for the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

Burnett said officers stopped the unidentified 55-year-old SUV driver near 16th Street. Officers noticed an open container of alcohol and conducted field sobriety tests before arresting the man on suspicion of operating while intoxicated and recklessly endangering safety, the spokesman said.

The incident was captured on a Department of Transportation camera and shows the driver passing Harris’ motorcade as a long line of vehicles with police lights fly by:

As of Tuesday, the man remained in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail. It is unclear whether he has since received bail or been released.

Joe Biesk, a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service, said in a statement Tuesday evening that the agency was aware of the incident. “

“We thank the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office for their response, which enabled them to stop the motorist and take him into custody,” the statement said.

The vice president and Democratic presidential candidate was in town to campaign in Waukesha County as Election Day is now less than two weeks away.
