Forget Samsung The Frame – all 2024 Samsung TVs can now create wallpapers using AI

Samsung’s The frame Soon it won’t be the only TV to have art-based wallpaper capabilities as it introduces a new feature that lets you create your own backgrounds using generative AI.

The new feature called Generative Wallpaper is introduced on the Samsung TV series 2024 from this month. It will only be available in Ambient Mode, which turns your TV into a sort of phone lock screen with widgets that show the time, weather, and even show the pattern behind the display.

This all serves to make the viewing experience much more enjoyable and meaningful in a world where, at least 75% of the time, it’s just a simple black box in the middle of the living room. Other companies are following suit, including Roku with its background function, Hisense and its new CanvasTVand even NXTFrame by TLC.

Samsung did not comment on whether the Generative Wallpaper feature might come to older TV models, as the company previously discussed updating 2023 TVs and later to the modern Tizen OS firmware. The new mode may only be available on 2024 Samsung TVs and will most likely be available on upcoming 2025 models.

Some of the best Samsung TVs already boast many fantastic, groundbreaking features. After all, Samsung is one of the leading TV manufacturers with supposedly 270 million users of its Tizen OS interface. Visiting the platform is a whole new way to personalize your viewing experience, and that starts with taking the art museum home with you.

Samsung’s new Generative Wallpaper feature lets you customize your display’s background using, as the name suggests, generative AI to better highlight your personal taste. This ensures that your living room isn’t flooded with the boring, blank screen of your TV and can be brought to life in an extraordinary way.

The company announced the new feature in a blog post, citing its potential to “deliver high-quality visual elements that seamlessly integrate with interior design.” Generative Wallpaper is only available in Ambient Mode and will be available on 2024 Samsung TVs starting this month for users in North America, Europe and South Korea.

The new feature follows several copycat versions of Samsung The Frame. A flood of art-based TV screensavers is ever-increasing, with Hisense, TCL and even Roku entering the mix with hardware and software-related options to recreate art-based TV wallpapers revolutionized by The Frame.

It is an extremely popular market; Even the television manufacturers mentioned above are not alone. The best Fire TV devices now have similar art screensavers after a similar feature was introduced in 2023. And even Google TV has its own AI screensaver generator, which went live just two weeks earlier.

Samsung hasn’t said whether the Generative Wallpaper feature might make its way to older TVs. It has announced a seven-year update path for its displays, which could mean the feature will arrive on models in 2023 alongside the updated Tizen OS, although Samsung itself hasn’t confirmed this. Note that your interface may change on some Samsung TVs. Samsung is slowly rolling out its new One UI update to various devices including TVs. This could mean that updating your Generative Wallpaper software may conflict with the One UI update and using the new feature could prove a little more complicated. However, to find them, simply go into Ambient Mode to start properly personalizing your home display.
