Fierceness, Ireland-based Team City of Troy and Forever Young of Japan are among a full field of 14 horses for the $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic next month in Del Mar.

The Classic field was among 212 horses, including a record 80 from overseas, entered Wednesday for the more than $34 million, 14-race world championship on Nov. 1 and 2.

Del Mar is hosting for the third time in the event’s 41-year history and is expected to do so again in 2025.

Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan is not running, nor is Belmont winner Dornoch, who has withdrawn. Preakness winner Seize the Gray is pre-registered for the $1 million Dirt Mile.

A record number of five continents – Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America – will be represented by 80 horses, surpassing the previous mark of 60 foreign horses in 2023.

City of Troy, the world’s best turf horse, moves to dirt to give Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien his first Classic.

Other participants pre-registered in the Classic include Arthur’s Ride, Derma Sotogake from Japan, Highland Falls, Mixto, Newgate, Next, Senor Buscador, Sierra Leone, Skippylongstocking, Tapit Trice and Ushba Tesoro from Japan.

Pyrenees and Rattle N Roll are also eligible.

The classic will air live on NBC and stream live on Peacock with an earlier than usual release time of 2:41 PM PDT. It traditionally concludes Saturday programming, but airs during the network’s 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. PDT window.

This means that four Cup races will be held following the Classic.

Thorpedo Anna takes on defending champion Idiomatic in the $2 million Distaff. Thorpedo Anna finished a close second to Fierceness at the Travers in August.

The final registrations and the drawing of the postal positions will take place on Monday.

The World Championships open on November 1st with five races for two-year-olds on so-called Future Stars Friday, followed by nine races on November 2nd.
