Rock County is among many areas with record-low unemployment rates

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Rock County was one of the nine counties with the lowest unemployment rates on record in Wisconsin, according to Gov. Tony Evers and the Department of Workforce Development (DWD).

In September, only 2.5% of people in Rock County were unemployed. Door County had the lowest unemployment rate last month, which was 1.9%. September now marks the fifth consecutive monthly employment record.

“These record-breaking numbers represent real working families, businesses and communities across our state and are a testament to our state’s hardworking people, our innovative industries and our efforts to break down barriers to work so people can thrive and stay in the country .” “We want to help the workforce, including access to job training, child care, public transportation, housing and much more,” said Governor Evers.

According to the DWD, the entire state of Wisconsin has an unemployment rate of 2.9%, which is well below the national rate of 4.1%.

DWD Secretary Amy Pechacek proudly announced that the areas with the lowest unemployment are predominantly rural and said Wisconsin’s economy offers real opportunities for workers.

“All areas of Wisconsin and all sectors of our economy – agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and more – benefit from connecting employers with a qualified workforce and leveling the playing field for success,” Pechacek said.

The state continues to see a steady increase in non-farm jobs.
