The 2024 Diocesan Teacher’s Institute took place Oct. 14 at the Embassy Suites in Lincoln, gathering Catholic educators and administrators for a day of inspiration and professional development.

Father Robert Spitzer delivered the keynote address at the invitation of Bishop James D. Conley. Known for his EWTN show “Father Spitzer’s Universe” and as president of the Magis Center of Reason and Faith, he spoke about the complementarity of faith and science, a timely message for educators navigating a technology-driven world.

In addition to Father Spitzer’s lecture, teachers participated in breakout sessions on teaching techniques and technology. The institute, part of the diocese’s ongoing efforts to support and enrich its educators, emphasized the critical role teachers play in promoting both academic and spiritual growth in Catholic schools.

Father Lawrence Stoley, diocesan director of Catholic schools, emphasized the importance of promoting a Catholic culture in schools: “If we do our jobs well, teachers can do what they love – teach.” And in a Catholic school, that’s what teaching is all about “To lead children to heaven.”

He said the day was not only about professional development but also spiritual enrichment, reminding educators of the deep calling they have embraced.

The video of his address is available on the diocesan YouTube channel.
