A D.C. teenager killed in an ambush shooting in Maryland wore an ankle monitor at his murder sentencing

Kesean Malik Pollard was shot and killed while riding in a rideshare car in Landover, Maryland, on Tuesday. According to the police, it was an ambush. The still unknown shooters were waiting for the 18-year-old before the shooting.

7News has learned that Pollard is the same teenager who was convicted in 2023 for the January 2022 murder of Devin Brewer in D.C. According to sources, he was also the suspect in a caught-on-camera armed carjacking of a D.C. council candidate.

Despite Pollard’s criminal record, he was released from prison in July this year and was wearing an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet at the time of his death, police sources said.

We have reached out to the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS), the Attorney General’s Office, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for comment on the case, but so far none have been willing to go on record.

Daneen Wright, Devin Brewer’s mother, spoke to 7News by phone on Wednesday. Brewer was sitting in a wheelchair outside his home in Northeast D.C. when he was shot by Pollard.

“I’m telling you, I’m just shocked. I’m really shocked about this. I just think that the system definitely could have provided better protection [Brewer] And we weren’t even told that [Pollard] had been published – so I’m really shocked [Pollard] “was outside,” Wright said.

We knocked on Pollard’s house and the woman who answered the door didn’t comment.
