After receiving a bye in the first round, the Australian Open finalist met Japanese home hopeful Uchijima at the Ariake Coliseum.

The game was scheduled for the big night session broadcast in Tokyo.

Before the match, Zheng and Uchijima went to the net for a coin toss.

As he did so, Uchijima noticed that Zheng’s Nike top still had the label sticking out.

As the pair posed for the customary pre-match photo, the world number 57 alerted them to Zheng’s wardrobe malfunction.

The top seed appeared to shake it off and beamed for the picture.

As she walked toward the baseline, she laughed, tore off the tag, and then handed it to a ball kid.

Uchijima also laughed at the incident as she made her way to the baseline.

The fashion faux pas didn’t seem to affect Zheng in the slightest as the match began.

At the start of the first set, the two exchanged breaks, with outsider Uchijima initially making the fight competitive.

The tennis star’s embarrassing reaction was broadcast on live television when a fan proposed to him during the match

The 23-year-old led the opening game 5-4, but was unable to win another game in the entire game.

World number 7 Zheng made a crucial break at 5-5 before serving out the first set.

She then defeated Uchijima, scoring a comfortable 7-5, 6-0 victory in an hour and 18 minutes.

Zheng will next face former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez.

After their recent meeting in Wuhan earlier this month, the encounter could be lively.

During the second set of the match, Zheng appeared to have issues with a member of Fernandez’s team and appeared to tell them to be quiet as she prepared to return.

Fernandez, 22, was outraged by Zheng’s comments and the referee had to intervene.

Zheng won the match 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 and went on to reach the Wuhan final before losing a competitive three-setter to new world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.
