Healthy Debate: Halloween should be celebrated next weekend, not this weekend

Healthy Debate: Halloween should be celebrated next weekend, not this weekend

I heard a great show today, Chicago Dog Walk.

And there were discussions about a variety of things like costumes, parties, etc. Hannah and Ella were both very entertaining, the whole thing is worth listening to.

The part that really stood out to me was a comment from Chief and Danny that Hello weekend should be on the 25th, 26th and 27th instead of the following weekend which was Halloween, November 1st and 2nd.

First let me say that I am completely out of the game here. I stand firmly by the fact that Halloween is good for about 8-10 years. When you’re about 6-10 years old and you accumulate candy as a child, and then when you’re in college and right after (24 maximum). Everything else in between and after stinks. Egging houses were overrated, adult costume parties stink. The prime years of getting 38489939 candies as a kid and the years of going to college are chef’s kisses for both… for very different reasons. I’ve long since gotten out of the game of Halloween, costume parties, and drunkenly grinding on the (sloppy) three blind mice. However, I have a clear opinion here.

Hello weekend should include Halloween. And the fact that it’s taking place on a Thursday this year means it’s the perfect scenario for students. I’ve already mentioned how Elite Thursdays were in college. By far the best evening of most weekends. It always seemed to me like people were a little more reckless on Thursdays, the themes of the parties were a little better, and starting a night earlier meant the weekend was a lot better. Some of my best evenings were on Thursdays. Halloween on a Thursday is perfect. Start with the costume parties and continue through Friday and Saturday nights. Fill the bars and house parties with costume parties. If you did it the week before, it’s way too early. WAY too early. In college, it’s celebrated on a weekend anyway, so why not start right on the holiday?

Maybe I’m old, maybe I’m done and maybe I’m crazy, but I think if you’re going to celebrate this completely overrated holiday, the actual day should matter and celebrate it next weekend, but I’m ready, here’s the one Making takes sound like that.
