Ticket sales for Folie a Deux cannot yet keep up with its predecessor in one key respect

Joker: Folie à DeuxThe terrible success at the box office is well documented The highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 Oscar-winning film turns out to be a huge failure both financially and critically. Currently has a poor critical and audience rating of 32% on the review aggregator Rotten tomatoesThe film is a perfect example of how quality can still impact the box office, with a more positive critical reception likely having resulted in fairer financial success. Compared to the first joker that broke the billion dollar mark worldwide, Todd Phillips has struggled to compete, with one metric in particular a shocking result Slide for two‘s failures.

Slide for twois the domestic box office hit to date is $56.909 million hasn’t yet surpassed the revenue of the first Joker, from domestic DVD and Blu-ray sales alonewhich represents a total value of $59.919 million. The fact that this small goal has still not been achieved after almost three weeks in cinemas is a shocking example of this Slide for twois a poor performance and a reminder that the sequel remains one of the biggest flops of the year.

There were many interesting factors at play, as the first rumors showed jokerThe sequel began with whispers that fans would be treated to one Musical with Lady Gaga creates great anticipation. When the film arrived, The musical elements were certainly controversialwith some defending the decision to try an entirely new path and many others calling the genre shift nothing more than a misstep. It’s fair to say that this choice had a detrimental effect on the film. This is largely due to the sequel’s poor review and abysmal box office performance. One critic who made his negative feelings towards the musical elements clear was Martin Tsaihe said in his review for Collider:

“Speaking of music,
It’s an absolute mess
. The lush, extradiegetic orchestral music of
Hildur Guðnadottir
an Oscar winner for the original
joker
,
constantly clashes with the songs the characters perform.
Perhaps this is intentional, but the resulting dissonance usually makes the singers sound like they’re off-key. While the score itself is occasionally stirring, none of the songs serve their purpose – unless the purpose is to replace the lyrics with actual dialogue. The songs, which range from standards like “I’ve Got the World on a String” to show tunes like “That’s Entertainment!” to adult contemporary hits like “What the World Needs Now Is Love,” appear to have been handpicked arbitrary, without period or genre specifics, in order to contextualize the backgrounds and preferences of the characters.
