The astronauts on SpaceX’s Crew 8 mission will return to Earth early Friday morning (October 25), and you can watch their homecoming live.

The Dragon capsule Endeavor is scheduled to land off the coast of Florida around 3:30 a.m. EDT (07:30 GMT) on Friday, completing the nearly eight-month Crew 8 mission to the International Space Station (ISS).

Crew-8 launched March 4 on a Falcon 9 rocket, carrying NASA astronauts Matthew Dominick, Michael Barratt and Jeanette Epps, and Alexander Grebenkin of the Russian space agency Roscosmos to the ISS.

The quartet was originally scheduled to depart the orbiting laboratory on October 7, but bad weather in the planned splash zone – caused in part by Hurricane Milton – delayed their departure several times. Mother Nature finally gave in this week and the Endeavor departed on Wednesday afternoon (October 23).

As the name suggests, Crew-8 is the eighth long-duration astronaut mission that SpaceX has flown to the ISS for NASA. The ninth is already in the orbit laboratory; Crew-9 arrived on September 29th.

This latest mission included just two astronauts – NASA’s Nick Hague and cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov – instead of the usual four. NASA detached two spacecraft from Crew-9 to make room for Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore, who needed to be brought home from the station.

Williams and Wilmore arrived at the ISS in June on the first manned flight of the Boeing Starliner capsule. Their mission, called Crew Flight Test, was only supposed to last about ten days. But Starliner suffered engine problems on the way to the ISS, and NASA repeatedly extended the capsule’s orbital stay to investigate the problem.

The agency ultimately decided to bring Starliner home unmanned, which happened without incident on September 6. As part of this decision, Williams and Wilmore will return to Earth with Crew-9 in February 2025.
