Identity of 81-year-old duck hunter who drowned in Great Salt Lake released

Authorities have identified the 81-year-old man who drowned while duck hunting in the marshes of the Great Salt Lake on Tuesday evening.

Utah County sheriff’s deputies reported that Kenneth Hill, 81, was hunting with Vince Badger, 70, and Hill’s dog in the Duck Marsh area of ​​the Great Salt Lake on Oct. 22. Both men were out of the boat collecting duck decoys when Badger noticed Mound face down in the water.

Officials said Badger was able to take Hill to a nearby island where he attempted resuscitation.

Officers responded to reports of a possible drowning with assistance from a Department of Public Safety helicopter crew, ground resources, Salt Lake City Fire Department personnel and Salt Lake City Police officers. The team located the men and recovered the boat and Hill’s dog.

Hill was pronounced dead at the scene while Badger was treated at the scene. Hill’s dog and the boat were returned to his family.

The investigation is ongoing.
