Harvest results vary in north-central Iowa

An LG Seeds agronomist says late-season drought is impacting some corn and soybean yields.

Jed Norman, who lives in north-central Iowa, tells Brownfield…

“You could clearly see that the health of a lot of plants was faltering a little bit.” He says, “You know, nitrogen was there, but there just wasn’t the moisture to get it into the plant. So it is variable. We have some people who have really, really good returns and then some reports where some returns may be a little bit worse.”

He says crop performance this year may depend on well-timed rains and planting dates.

“A lot of what was planted later would probably be in the crosshairs a little bit because we may have taken a little bit off that top end just because of the stress we put on it,” he says.

Norman says the soybean harvest in his area is nearing completion and the corn harvest is about halfway complete.
