Anyone who loves the Cincinnati Open, the 125-year-old event and one of the oldest tennis tournaments in the world, can now experience its magic year-round.

The competition, which brings hundreds of thousands of people to the Cincinnati area each summer, is now being honored in a new Pendleton mural, debuted Tuesday by ArtWorks Cincinnati.

The “Spectator’s Advantage” mural at 838 Reedy St. depicts a tennis match on Center Court, the newly renovated Cincinnati Open court that currently seats over 11,000 fans. The artwork was designed by New York-based illustrator Alison Seiffer and installed by 16 ArtWorks trainees aged 14 to 21. The team was led by teaching artists Sophie Shiff, Tevin Brown and Dani Pflum.

“The history of the Cincinnati Open dates back to 1899, and we felt it was appropriate to commemorate the rich history of tennis in this community by permanently showcasing the sport downtown through this mural,” said the director of the tournament, Bob Moran, in a press release. “Together with ArtWorks, this project embodies the spirit of the Cincinnati Open – a living celebration of tennis created by the community for all to see.”
