Nanooks publishes the 2024-25 ski schedule

FAIRBANKS – The Alaska Nanooks Nordic ski teams have announced their upcoming schedule for the 2024-25 season. Alaska is scheduled to compete in two home races and six road events, including the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Championships and the NCAA Championships. This season, Alaska’s new UAF Competition Ski Trails open, made possible by the Usibelli Coal Mine.

The Nanooks begin their season at home with the Alaska Nordic Cup on December 6th and 7th. Alaska will look for its fourth straight win over Alaska Anchorage in the season opener, where both teams will compete in a classic 10K interval start and a skate sprint at the UAF Competition Ski Trails. After the new year, the Nooks will remain in-state and travel to the UAA-hosted US Nationals in Anchorage Jan. 2-7. The race will see the Nanooks Nordic ski teams compete in the 10km Freestyle Individual Skate (January 4th), the Classic Sprint (January 5th), the Classic 20km Mass Start (January 6th) and the Skate Sprint (January 7th) against each other. Ten days after Nationals concludes, Alaska will compete in the Utah Invite in Salt Lake City. The invitational, hosted by the University of Utah, will take place Jan. 18-19 and includes a 7.5km individual classic race and a 15km/20km freestyle mass start. The following weekend, the Blue and Gold travel to Bozeman, MT to compete in the Montana State Invite, held January 24-26 by Montana State University. As part of the three-day invitational, the Nordic ski teams will compete in a 20km freestyle mass start, a freestyle sprint and a 7.5km individual classic start. The Nanooks’ final road race of the regular season will be February 8-9 in Minturn, Colorado, where Alaska will compete in the Denver Invitational. Alaska will compete in the 7.5km Classic Individual Start and 10km Freestyle Pursuit during its two days at the Maloit Park Trails.

Alaska will return to Fairbanks one final time for the UAF Invitational on February 16th and 17th. The invitational begins with a classic sprint on the UAF Competition Ski Trails before ending with a 10K individual freestyle run in Birch Hill.

Four days after the conclusion of the UAF Invitational, RMISA will hold its championships at Kincaid Park in Anchorage. Nordic Ski will compete in the 7.5km classic individual and 20km freestyle mass start on February 21st and 22nd. Following the RMISA championships, the NCAA will host its ski championships in Hanover, NH Dartmouth College will host the championships on March 6 and 8 along with Nordic ski races in the classic individual start over 7.5 km and the mass start over 20 km freestyle.
