Food safety tips after several products were recently recalled

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – Here are some food safety tips after checking your refrigerators during several recent recalls.

From deli foods to waffles to onions at McDonald’s, we’re here with you to provide you with ways to protect yourself and your family.

The good news is that the FDA and CDC have identified the contaminated products and are removing them from shelves.

But before you go to the store, Dr. Public health professor Suzanne Judd said you should look at the FDA’s recall list to see which items and brands you should avoid now.

When you buy groceries and take them home, experts say it’s important to rinse the produce before eating or cooking it.

Make sure you cook your meat to the right temperature and heat prepackaged foods that are already cooked to over 350 or 350°F to ensure that germs and bacteria are cooked out.

“Just take some basic precautions, make sure you disinfect the food when necessary, get it in the fridge as quickly as possible – don’t leave it on the counter.” This will all help you and yours “To protect the family,” said Dr. Judd

Experts say don’t be alarmed when you hear about recalls, because sometimes they’re not all bad.

They could have been recalled out of an abundance of caution due to manufacturing or handling defects.
