United Airlines plans “biggest domestic schedule ever” with a focus on ski resorts

United Airlines has begun operating its busiest winter schedule in history, with a strong focus on southern Europe, ski resorts and more.

A record-breaking winter

Today, United Airlines launched its highly anticipated route from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Marrakesh Menara Airport (RAK). The airline will begin flying from Tokyo to Cebu on Sunday, with additional international flights launching later this winter. However, United is not only expanding abroad. More than 140 airports across the United States (US) will expand United service.

More flights for skiing

Domestically, United is focused on expanding into ski and sun destinations. This winter, United’s network offers nearly three times as many flights to ski resorts as other American airlines. Not only will additional flights increase capacity, but some airports will also offer flights with larger aircraft.

SkyWest Airlines is currently working on certification to land the Embraer E175 at Aspen/Pitkin County Airport. SkyWest previously operated the Bombardier CRJ700, but United wanted to increase its capacity at the Colorado airport. Last year, Aspen broke its annual passenger record, although there were no record number of flights.

Not only does United plan to fly the E175 to and from Aspen, Eastern Sierra Regional Airport (BIH) will also be operating flights by then. The airport is located near Mammoth Lakes, one of the most popular winter sports destinations in the state of California. Service from Denver to Bishop/Mammoth will now be offered twice weekly through the end of April 2025.

Other changes include a new route from Dulles International Airport (IAD) to

Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN). In February and March, United will offer seasonal weekend service from Chicago to Gunnison/Crested Butte, Colorado. Also in February, Los Angeles will connect with Kalispell, Montana. United will operate a daily flight from LA to Montrose/Telluride from December to January.

Advanced services include:

  • Another flight from Newark to Bozeman
  • Second daily flight from Newark to Jackson Hole December through March
  • Twice daily flights from Los Angeles and San Francisco to Sun Valley, Idaho

Patrick Quayle, Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances at United, commented on the historic winter schedule:

“This winter we are offering more flights to more destinations to give our customers the widest possible choice of places to explore. Whether that’s adventuring somewhere new abroad, soaking up the sun or exploring the country’s best ski resorts, we look forward to providing easy access to the top destinations for winter getaways.”

Fun in the sun

Of course, sunny travel destinations are not neglected in winter. After all, not everyone likes the cold. According to United, the company is increasing its flights to the West Coast by offering approximately 13% more seats to warm-weather destinations.

New to the airline’s network are nonstop flights from Dulles to Salt Lake City and Palm Springs. Florida is also growing with another 20 flights from United hubs to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Palm Beach.
