“The hole will never fill”; Families and community remember victims of CVPA shooting at South City church

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – On Thursday, St. Margaret of Scotland Church held a service at Central Performing Visual Arts to commemorate the tragedy.

It was the second anniversary since the deaths of teacher Jean Kuzcka and student Alexzandria Bell in 2022 by a school shooter.

“The void will never be filled and we will never think about them and how they should still be with you,” said community member Emily Schitlz.

Schiltz’s two children were on campus the day of the shooting. Both were students at Collegiate High School. She tells First Alert 4 that her daughter and son are still recovering from the traumatic experience.

“She walks past the exact spot where Alex died, in a main hallway that she sees every day,” Schiltz says. “It could have been my children. My children were victims in the sense of what they witnessed.”

Since the incident, St. Margaret of Scotland Church has formed a Gun Sense Committee to advocate for gun safety and reform alongside groups like Moms Demand Action.

“As people of faith, prayer, silence, reflection and lamentation over lives taken unjustly and too soon are important to us,” says Schiltz.

Students at CVPA and Collegiate High Schools were given a day off to commemorate the unforgettable tragedy.
