Jacome and Minarik drop into the consolation round in singles and will play doubles tomorrow

HOUSTONAlejandro Jacome And Kristof Minarik Both lost their opening singles match at the 2024 AAC Singles Championships Thursday afternoon at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

Jacome lost his match to Temple’s Martim Marujo in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (5). In the second set, Jacome fought back from a 1-4 deficit and forced a tiebreak after a total of six games, but failed to get the decisive break.

Minarik lost to John Bernard of Florida Atlantic 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (3) in a very close match. After losing the first set, Minarik battled back to win the second and was up 5-4 in the third set, but was unable to complete the comeback and ultimately fell in the third set tiebreaker to the Owl from Boca Raton , Florida.

The two Shockers will face off tomorrow to compete in the main draw doubles after a bye in the first round. They are scheduled to play Memphis duo Pablo Alemany and Harry Rock for a spot in the doubles semifinals at 10 a.m. Central Time.

In singles, both play until they lose in the final tournament. Tomorrow, Minarik will play either Rice’s Emir Sendogan or Alemany of Memphis at 2:30 p.m. and Jacome will play Charlotte’s Vasco Prata at 11:30 a.m. If Jacome wins, he will play either Noah Malige of UAB or Francisco Llanes of South Florida later in the day at 2:30 p.m.
