Chapter 116 began with a flashback from four years ago, where Third Division Vice Captain Soshiro Hoshina caught the attention of First Division Commander General Narumi during training.

Gen initially expressed his dislike for Soshiro when he joined the Defense Force, as Soshiro reminded him of his older brother Soichiro, the captain of the Sixth Division. Despite this reluctance, Gen eventually attempted to recruit Soshiro. However, Soshiro declined the offer.

Over time, Soshiro broke all of Gen’s hand-to-hand combat records, frustrating the First Division commander even more.

In the present, Gen and Soshiro fought against the extremely powerful Kaiju No. 9, who had just dealt a near-fatal blow to Hibino.

Their simultaneous presence on the battlefield violated Defense Force protocol – not out of personal dislike, but because a commander at full strength wields power comparable to that of a mega monster. This meant that any soldier nearby was at risk of being killed due to the sheer force of his attacks.

Gen and Soshiro managed to land multiple hits on Kaiju #9. Just as they coordinated a simultaneous attack, the monster deftly parried their attacks and unleashed a massive explosion.

Meanwhile, the seriously injured Hibino fell into a dream-like state and sank deeper into a vast body of water. He could still hear the sounds of battle, and a mysterious voice turned to him and asked if he wanted to return.

When asked if he still wanted to fight, Hibino replied that he didn’t care what happened to him, but that he just wanted to fight alongside Mina Ashiro and his friends.

The chapter ended with the sudden appearance of a samurai warrior with a large spear. The warrior beckoned to Hibino, offering to strengthen their connection, suggesting a new source of power or leadership.
