Even after its premiere in 1999, fans of Cruel Intentions are still talking about the scandalous plot – and the dreamy lead actor Sebastian Valmont. Prime’s iteration of Cruel intentions is not the first attempted remake. Fox filmed three episodes of a prequel series in the early 2000s, which were collected into the 2001 direct-to-video film entitled Cruel intentions 2. In 2016, a pilot was filmed for an NBC revival series with Gellar reprising her role as Kathryn Merteuil, but the drama ultimately never made it to air.

“We are excited to work together to continue the legacy of Cruel intentionsa film loved by so many – including us!” said showrunners Goodman and Fisher in a December 2023 press release. “We promise this next version will be just as entertaining, irreverent and boundary-pushing as the original, and “We are grateful to our partners at Original Film, Sony and Amazon MGM Studios for trusting us to keep Cruel.”

Is there a trailer for the TV show “Cruel Intentions”?

The first trailer was released in October 2024 and featured a cover of The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony,” a nod to the original film’s use of the iconic song. However, the trailer makes it clear that this is a different story – with all the elements that fans love.

Caroline offers herself to her stepbrother Lucien as the prize for seducing the vice president’s daughter, Annie, and the images all look familiar: a romantic pool scene, a rosary with a hidden compartment, a black vintage car.

“You do what you have to do,” Cece (Sara Silva) says in the trailer of her new sorority commitments. “Sabotage is encouraged. Ingenuity matters.”
