Prosper Fire Station No. 4 is on track to open in 2026 after a small cost increase

Prosper Fire Station No. 4 is on track to open in 2026 after a small cost increase

The price tag to build a fourth fire station after Prosper is rising slightly, officials said.

During an Oct. 22 meeting, Prosper City Council members increased the guaranteed maximum price for Fire Station No. 4 from $13.67 million to a maximum rate of $13.81 million.

According to meeting documents, the additional costs represent an increase of $139,852, or 1.31%. This will fund the extension of a natural gas pipeline along Prosper Trail, where the station will be located, from Escalante Trail to Coit Road.

Construction of the gas pipeline is scheduled to begin in February 2025. The remainder of the station construction will begin as soon as possible after designs are in place, and the opening is still expected in early 2026, Fire Chief Stuart Blasingame said.

The details

Fire Station No. 4 will have five parking spaces for fire engines. It will also include bedrooms, offices and a kitchen for firefighters.

Overall, the station is a little smaller than some of the others in Prosper, but “exactly what we need for this location,” Blasingame said.

Some context

The fire station has been a topic of discussion for Prosper officials since 2021.

Setbacks, including high construction prices, priority given to other city projects and the commissioning of the central fire station, have delayed the project in recent years, according to a presentation at the meeting.
