SHELBY, NC (WBTV) – An iconic BBQ restaurant in Cleveland County caught fire Thursday night, temporarily closing it.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., Shelby Fire & Rescue Shared photos of the scene below Bridges Barbecue Lodge on Highway 74.

Images showed smoke still billowing from the building, although the restaurant said the flames were contained within the firewall.

The restaurant did not share the extent of the damage but said it will remain closed until further notice.

“If you have orders with us, we will contact you as soon as we can safely resume operations,” Bridges Barbecue posted on Facebook. “Thank you for your understanding and support. Stay safe!”

Officials did not say what started the fire or whether anyone was injured.

The award-winning Bridges Barbecue Lodge has been in business since 1946.
