First alarm forecast: record heat today

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – It will feel more like summer this afternoon, but cooler weather is on the way this weekend.

After a cool start this morning, we’ll warm up quickly this afternoon, with daytime highs in the mid 80s. With a high of 86° in Nashville, we will likely break the record of 84° set in 1973.

A cold front will approach the Mid State late Friday and into Saturday, mixing in some more cloud cover, but a few isolated showers will also be possible as the front moves through. Not everyone will end up seeing rain, but you should have your umbrella handy for the first half of your Saturday.

For those who see rain, Saturday afternoon will turn drier and become cooler and partly sunny again, with highs falling back into the 70s. It will be cool Saturday evening, with lows in the 40s Sunday morning.

Sunday afternoon will be even cooler with temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s and more afternoon sunshine.

We’ll warm up a bit more on Monday, with highs in the mid to upper 80s and partly cloudy skies.

The middle of next week looks breezy on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a mix of clouds and sunshine and temperatures in the upper 70s to near 80s.

Our next chance for showers will be on Halloween, where we’ll have to watch the timing closely to see how and if that impacts trick-or-treaters.
