GBI arrests Tifton man as part of murder investigation

TIFTON – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Tifton man as part of the murder investigation of an 18-year-old.

The GBI has arrested and charged 17-year-old Xavier Berrian of Tifton, Georgia, with murder, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. On Sunday, October 20, 2024, the Tifton Police Department requested the GBI’s assistance in this investigation.

The investigation indicates that Tifton Police responded to a home on Tifton-Eldorado Road, Tifton, Georgia in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived, they found 18-year-old Jaquan Jones of Tifton suffering from a gunshot wound. Jones was taken to a local hospital where he died.

Jones’ body was taken to the GBI crime lab in Macon for an autopsy.

Berrian is currently incarcerated in the Tift County Jail.
