Harris releases her “to-do list” building on the Biden agenda

Vice President Kamala Harris released a “to-do list” in the final days of the presidential election in which she attempts to offer concrete suggestions to voters.

The list contains 14 items with an “and more” item at the end.

Several of the points are continuations and implementations of what President Joe Biden has tried to do. Their proposal to cap the cost of insulin at $35 and reduce prescription drug prices is an expansion of the guidelines of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

Another point to protect and strengthen Obamacare was a plan from Biden and Harris. Recently, the president and vice president announced they would expand contraceptive coverage under Obamacare.

Like Biden, Harris also said she wants to invest in clean energy and manufacturing.

In July, Biden signed, among other things, an executive order establishing a “Made in America” office. In September, he announced an additional $7.3 billion to bring clean energy to rural communities.

Other points are more vague or things the Biden administration has been unable to accomplish. Harris said she wants to “restore reproductive freedom,” a common Democratic stance that Biden has also adopted. She also wants to “promote gun safety laws,” another common Democratic policy stance.

Harris stressed she wanted to pass the bipartisan border bill, which failed despite Biden’s support, largely because former President Donald Trump opposed it. The bill’s prospects are unlikely to improve even if Harris wins the White House, given Republicans are favored in the Senate.

Among the new policies that distance her from Biden, Harris said she wants to legalize recreational marijuana use. Biden has softened his administration’s stance on the drug but has not gone so far as to fully legalize marijuana federally.

She also re-emphasized her new economic policies, which aim to expand the child tax credit and give new small businesses a large tax deduction. Below, just before an “and more” note, Harris noted one of her more controversial policies.

“Pass the first-ever federal ban on corporate food and grocery price gouging,” she added.

Trump said the policy amounts to “communist price control” because these markets are influenced by the government rather than supply and demand. Economists disagree about whether it would work.

Harris tried to draw a contrast between herself and Trump at her rally in Atlanta, Georgia, by mentioning her to-do list. “Either it’s Donald Trump stewing over his enemies list,” Harris said. “Or that I work for you and check out my to-do list.”
