By Riley Twp. Fire Chief Craig Fischer

The Riley Township Pandora Fire Department was dispatched at 3:58 p.m [on October 22] for a reported corn stubble fire near the intersection of Road 4 and Road O, outside of Pandora, OH.

Weather conditions caused the small fire to quickly spread to an area of about 55 acres, near a ditch with standing corn on the other side.

Mutual aid was dispatched by Bluffton FD, Columbus Grove FD, Gilboa FD and Ottawa FD for tankers and brush trucks and assisted by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Putnam County EMS for a minor injury. In addition, several local farmers supported the fire department with tractors and discs; Matt Karhoff, Kevin Schulte, Mark Shoemaker, Paul Lehman, Bob Grismore and Scott Grismore, and Todd Schulte with half a load of water. Many thanks to Dave Moss and Jani Fischer for the water boxes to help the firefighters hydrate.

There was no damage to surrounding buildings or properties. The fire brigade was on site for around two and a half hours.
