Sanrio’s Hello Kitty celebrates its 50th anniversary with a stylish new CASIO watch

Sanrio’s Hello Kitty and CASIO’s world-famous G-SHOCK brand are joining forces to celebrate the kawaii mascot’s 50th anniversary in style, releasing a new watch especially for the occasion.




CASIO is selling the new Hello Kitty G-SHOCK digital watch through its official website to celebrate the mascot’s 50th anniversary. The watch, which belongs to the 5600 series, is listed at a recommended price of around 18,700 yen (~123 US dollars). It comes in a black finish, with a prominent “HELLO KITTY” on a gold-rimmed dial next to “CASIO” and “G-SHOCK” and four buttons: “Start/Stop”, “Light”, “Mode” and “Adjust.” Release in Japan is scheduled for October 30th; Overseas readers need to use reliable proxy shipping services. An excerpt from the Hello Kitty G-SHOCK states: “The gold buckle, buttons and screws provide a luxurious feel. When the backlight is on, the original G-Band, an arrangement of the band that is also characteristic of Hello Kitty, appears on the black band with a black silhouette of Hello Kitty and “Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary”. This special model comes with original 50th anniversary can packaging for both, as well as the engraved design of Hello Kitty’s 50th anniversary. The timer is accurate to 1/100th of a second from 0”00”00 -59”59”59 and accurate to one second from 1-24 hours. It features a fully automatic calendar, is waterproof up to 20 atmospheres and has a battery life of approximately two years, while its timer is quoted with an average monthly difference of ±15 seconds.


Hello Kitty received numerous timepieces this year for her 50th anniversary. Sanrio released a pink Hello Kitty watch in its official store in April and another in collaboration with Angel Heart in May. Additionally, in June it partnered with IKEPOD for a special blue Hello Kitty edition inspired by dolphins. His Sanrio colleague Pochacco celebrated its 35th anniversary this year with a watch from the popular watchmaker SEIKO.
