Milan’s game in Bologna was postponed due to flooding

Milan’s game in Bologna was postponed due to flooding

Saturday’s match between Bologna and Milan has been postponed due to heavy rain and flooding in the region, Serie A confirmed.

Clubs and league organizers met on Friday to find alternative arrangements after Bologna mayor Matteo Lepore earlier announced he had ordered the game to be suspended.

No agreement could be reached, solutions such as holding the game in Bologna behind closed doors or in a neutral stadium were rejected and the game was postponed, with a rescheduled date to be announced.

“The game is being postponed because the mayor, in what I think is an incomprehensible decision, has banned the game from being played behind closed doors,” Milan chairman Paolo Scaroni told reporters after the meeting.

The municipality of Bologna said in a statement that the game would bring about 35,000 people close to the most critical area of the city, causing problems due to the presence of fans and traffic closures in the area.

With both clubs involved in the Champions League, it will be difficult to find a new date for the postponed game and Milan will now be without Theo Hernandez and Tijjani Reijnders for Tuesday’s game against leaders Napoli.

Both players were due to be suspended for the Bologna game but will now have to serve their bans in the next game.
