Boilers demand “Gold Out” in Mackey Arena match against Wisconsin

Purdue fans heading to Saturday’s volleyball game against Wisconsin will definitely want to wear their gold best. The Boilermakers are calling for a “Gold Out” for this weekend’s Big Ten matchup with the Badgers.

On Saturday, coach Dave Shondell will lead his team into Mackey Arena for the second time in a week. This time, Purdue hosts Wisconsin in a nationally televised game that will air on NBC. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET.

Last Saturday, Purdue hosted rival Indiana in the Monon Spike Match at Mackey Arena. The Boilermakers defeated the Hoosiers 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-9).

Attendance at Mackey Arena for last Saturday’s game set a new record for a Big Ten game. A total of 14,876 spectators attended the event at the historic basketball venue, setting a new conference record.

The record was previously set at 10,927 in a game between Illinois and Minnesota in 2004.

“It was a dream come true,” Shondell said when asked about playing in front of a record-breaking crowd. “I think every Purdue volleyball fan or anyone associated with our program has an idea of what that could look like. We’ve played here before, but we didn’t sell out the place. And I felt like everything was going on. “In the sport of volleyball, this is the time.”

Saturday’s game between Purdue and Wisconsin is a top-10 matchup. The Badgers are ranked 8th and the Boilers are ranked 10th. It should be an incredible atmosphere for a classic conference matchup.
