Quaker Valley defeats Berks Catholic

Quaker Valley won the singles matches with a 4-1 victory over Berks Catholic in the quarterfinals Friday of the PIAA Class 2A tennis tournament at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Quaker Valley (13-2) finished second in District 7 and Berks Catholic (17-2) was District 3 champion. Quaker Valley will face Scranton Prep in the semifinals on Saturday.

For the Saints, Molly McFadden and Serena Burkey won second doubles, defeating Parker Barnes and Hannah Stein 6-3, 7-6(4).

In No. 1 singles, Kirsten Close of Quaker Valley defeated Ariana Plevrakis 6-0, 6-0; in No. 2 singles, Avery Allan beat Sarah Schnatz 6-3, 6-1; and in third singles, Jay Olawaiye defeated Isabella Logozzo 6-1, 6-2.

In first doubles, Livia Jobbins and Jane Lenhard defeated Saints duo Francesca Ditsky and Maddie Gordos 7-6(5), 7-5.

Berks Catholic advanced to the quarterfinals on Friday by defeating Hughesville 4-1 in the first round on Tuesday.
