Newport police arrest two people in connection with a crack cocaine investigation

Newport police have arrested two people in connection with a crack cocaine investigation sparked by complaints from neighbors.

The Newport Police Department says its investigation began after street level complaints focused on an apartment at 76 Broadway.

According to police, investigators were able to identify two suspects, 24-year-old Tyquan Mitchell and 62-year-old Gerald McNeill.

Their investigation uncovered two residences at 76 Broadway and an apartment at 143 Third Street.

After executing a search warrant at both locations, police said they found crack cocaine, an illegal firearm and an illegal gun magazine.

Mitchell is accused of:

  • Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance.
  • Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a high capacity delivery device.

Mitchell was held on $40,000 bail.

McNeill is accused of:

  • Maintaining a narcotics nuisance.
  • Possession of crack cocaine.

He was released on $1,000 restitution.
