Virginia Tech players to watch Saturday against the Yellow Jackets

Virginia Tech players to watch Saturday against the Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech faces another strong opponent on the road: the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Hokies have won two straight games after a 2-3 start and are 2-1 in Blacksburg. There are several players to keep an eye on in the game, but here’s who to watch on Saturday.

QB Kyron Drone It’s been a season full of ups and downs for the Drones, who were expected to be among the best passers in the ACC this season. He’s definitely shown flashes and has been showing up more and more lately. He has completed over 70% of his passes in consecutive games. He also had three touchdowns and just one interception during that span. Another cool thing about Drones is that he has one of the top 60 QBRs in the country. He has improved his completion percentage since his sophomore season from 58.2% to 62.7% in his junior season. Drones can also burn you with its legs if you’re not careful. He is the second-leading rusher on the team with 318 rushing yards and also has five touchdowns. He had two rushing touchdowns in the win against Boston College. Drones are dangerous and will pay you if you allow him to sit in the pocket, analyze your defense and make big plays. Drones are definitely something to keep an eye on in this game.

RB Bhayshul Tuten- Last Thursday he had a game-changing performance against Boston College, rushing for 266 yards and three touchdowns. He also averaged 14.8 yards per carry in the win. Tuten was named the Walter Camp National FBS Player of the Week for his performance. The senior running back had his best performance of the season. Tuten has rushed for 100 yards in five of the seven games this season. He is the second-leading rusher in the ACC, just 30 yards behind Omarion Hampton. Tuten leads the ACC in rushing touchdowns. He has rushed for 871 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. Georgia Tech is no stranger to facing big rushing attacks. They have faced each other several times this season, but this time it will be a little different, especially because Tuten can advance to the second level so quickly and give you big wins. If the Yellow Jackets want to win, the tackling has to be significantly better.

DE Antwaun Powell-Ryland Powell-Ryland had an All-ACC season for Virginia Tech. He had a strong performance against Boston College last week, finishing with seven tackles, four sacks and a fumble recovery. He had two games this season where he had four sacks in one game. His best performance of the season came against Old Dominion, where he finished with seven tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Powell-Ryland is currently first in the country with 11 sacks. He also leads the ACC in having accumulated two more sacks than the next closest person. Powell-Ryland has already surpassed his sack total from a season ago (9.5 sacks) and has double-digit sacks for the first time in his career. Given the chance, Powell-Ryland can ruin a game. The senior defensive lineman is making a name for himself this season and the Yellow Jackets must be ready to protect their quarterback and block No. 52.
