Tulsa police arrested a suspect Friday in connection with a shooting at the Apache Manor Apartments.

Officials said the incident began around 9:30 p.m. Thursday with a report of a fight that soon escalated into gunfire. When police arrived at the scene, they found 37-year-old Thomas Washington suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

During the investigation, Tulsa Police identified the suspect as 24-year-old Jacob Singleton. According to police, Singleton is on probation for an unrelated crime.

Capt. Matt Arnold of the Tulsa Police Department commented on the potential dangers to residents, saying, “There are a lot of people living here and those people deserve to live in a safe environment and as long as we have people out here willing are to commit violence.” This is not a safe environment for them. We have children and families that live here and you know it’s our job to get out here and make it as safe as possible.”
