Women’s tennis competes in the Big South Individual Championship

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Longwood women’s tennis team began play in the 2024 Big South Women’s Individual Tennis Championship on Friday at Rock Hill Tennis Center.

The Lancers opened the day with a double loss Karina Rizvanova And Alexandra Magica fell 8-1 to No. 1 seeds Noa Boyd and Amila Jusufbegovic of Charleston Southern. The eighth-ranked pair from Longwood will play No. 5 Louise Booker and Ari Siegel of UNC Asheville in the consolation draw at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Rizvanova then fell to top seed Emma Shasteen 6-1, 6-0 in the main draw of the singles event and will face No. 9 Elizabeth Tindera of UNC Asheville in the consolation draw at noon.

No. 2 Boyd then defeated No. 15 Elizaveta Gnilozubova6-2, 6-2. Gnilozubova next faces seventh-seeded Emilia Roslund of Gardner-Webb, also at noon Saturday in the consolation draw.

The inaugural Big South Individual Championship serves as a qualifier for the ITA Conference Masters Championships. Main draw singles and doubles winners will receive automatic entry into the event, which will take place November 7-10 in Rome, Georgia.
