Pedophile and serial killer sentenced to life imprisonment in Gurugram

Sunil was arrested in November 2018 during an investigation into the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in Gurugram

Additional District and Sessions Judge Ashwini Kumar sentenced pedophile and suspected serial killer Sunil, who is already on death row, to life imprisonment for raping and murdering a six-year-old girl in the civil case in 2017. The court did so also imposed a fine of 2.5 lakh for the convict. The Legal Services Authority was asked to provide compensation in the amount of 10 lakh to the victim’s family.

Sunil was arrested in November 2018 during an investigation into the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in Gurugram. The convict told police that he had killed at least 15 people in Gurugram, Delhi, Gwalior and Jhansi in the last seven years. He had confessed to raping and murdering at least three girls in Gurugram between 2016 and 2018. Sunil mainly targeted girls at bhandaras organized for religious functions, kidnapping, raping and then killing them.

According to Dr. Anju Rawat Negi and Kulbhushan, a man had lodged a complaint at the Civil Lines police station on January 6, 2017 that his 6-year-old daughter had gone to the Bhandara in Peer Baba to take prasad but had not returned home Bhardwaj from the Farishte Group, a social organization that helps rape victims.

The police registered a case and started searching for the girl. On January 25, 2017, a child’s body was found in a water tank at Drona Park in Rajiv Chowk and the family identified her as their missing daughter. The post-mortem report revealed rape and strangulation, following which murder and Pocso Act sections were added in the FIR.

Police formed an SIT in the case and arrested Sunil, a resident of Ganj village in Uttar Pradesh.

“Strong evidence and witnesses were also presented in court. After finding that the allegations against the accused were proven, the court had last week declared the accused guilty and reserved the decision on his punishment, which the court decided on Friday. In another case, the court has also sentenced this accused to death and some cases are still pending,” said advocate Kulbhushan Bhardwaj.
