Two doubles teams advance in the Ivy tournament


PHILADELPHIA, Pa. –The Dartmouth women’s tennis team opened the Ivy League singles tournament Friday with four members of the Big Green in singles and two doubles teams.

The day started with doubles Elisabeth Fahrmeier And Lexi Dewire competed against a team from Colombia. Fahrmeier and Dewire defeated the Columbia team 8:7. On Saturday they will face a Penn team.

Sam Grosjean And Elise Wong advanced to the second round with an 8-5 victory over a duo from Penn. The Dartmouth duo will face a team from Yale in the second round on Saturday.

Grosjean was the only member of the Big Green to advance in the individual tournament. She won the opening set 7-5 and completed the victory with a 6-1 win in the second set. The first-year will face Yale’s Ann Wright Guerry on Saturday with a spot in the quarterfinals at stake.

Valentina Cruz She won three sets in her first match of the tournament. She lost the first set 2-6, then won the second set 6-2, forcing a third set. In the third set she was eliminated 7:6.

Wong lost her singles match in straight sets to a player from Colombia. She fell 6-3 in the first set and was unable to force a third set as she lost 6-1 in the second set.

Fahrmeier fell in straight sets in her singles match. She lost 6-3 in the first set and 6-2 in the second set to Michelle Ryndin of Cornell.

The Big Green are back on the court Saturday as the doubles teams attempt to advance to the quarterfinals. Grosjean wants to book her ticket to the quarter-finals.
