The windward Hawaiian Island is preparing for heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Hawaii News Now weather team has marked Saturday and Sunday as First alert weather days on the island of Hawaii.

An upper level disturbance and a deep area of moisture could result in heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms over windward portions of Hawaii Island.

Total rainfall could settle at around 2.5 to 10 cm. If thunderstorms develop, rainfall totals could rise above 5 inches in some.

Winds will remain light to moderate this weekend. A stalled front in the north of the state continues to block typical trade wind flow. Gusty trading is expected to return on Monday following the collapse of the front. Windy conditions are expected throughout next week.

Snowfall is also possible on the peaks of Hawaii Island Saturday through Sunday.

All windward districts of the island chain will experience heavy rainfall over the weekend.
