ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KPEL News) – According to multiple reports released Friday evening, one person has died in an overnight homecoming shooting at St. Martinville High School and a suspect appears to be in custody.

The shooting, which occurred just before the start of the game against Erath, forced authorities to stop the game and send everyone home.

KLFY reports this evening that St. Martinville Police Chief Ricky Martin has confirmed the victim has died. Investigators from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Police are assisting in the search for the suspect.

St. Martinville Police confirm a shooting occurred at St. Martinville High School’s homecoming game Friday night.

According to KLFY News 10, one person was injured in the shooting as adults and children gathered to celebrate homecoming Friday evening.

According to several posts on social media, there was chaos in the stadium when shots were fired.

Police have identified a suspect in the shooting and are taking him into custody.
