Men’s tennis gets off to a strong start in Birmingham on Friday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Belmont University men’s tennis team returned to fall tournament play after a nearly two-week break from competition, starting Friday morning with a 6-4 singles mark at the CCB Collegiate Invitational at Samford University. All five Bruins competing at the Country Club of Birmingham in Birmingham, Ala., picked up at least one individual win on Friday.

Junior Eli Mizerski earned two match wins to advance to the semifinals in the Bulldog draw.

“I was very proud of the way Eli played today,” commented head coach Jeff Cero. “Especially after his first set in his opening round game against Tulane. After losing an opening set 7-5 to Tulane’s Vincent Vohl in his first-round match, Mizerski stormed back 6-2, 6-2 in sets two and three. In the quarterfinals of his draw, Mizerski dismissed Niklas Jensen of Southern Miss 7-5, 6-0.
