Which games really showcase what makes Castlevania shine? We rate every game in the collection.

And while Metroid was relatively reserved in terms of entries, Castlevania has the opposite. It has branched out into countless genres, platforms and collaborations. It’s a massive series with lots of ups and downs. And here you can find out how many games there are in the series.

How many main Castlevania games are there?

It began its long run almost 40 years ago in 1986. The Castlevania series has basically never stopped releasing new games in the whole game. Lords of Shadow became a blight on the series, but stopped brand new mainline entries.

In Japan, most entries in the series are under the title Demon Castle Draculainstead of Castlevania.

From 1986 to 2014, A total of 25 mainline entries were published. In fact, most remakes are ignored! So yeah, quite a lot to empathize with as a vampire. The various Castlevania collections are now surprisingly easy to access.

How many Castlevania spin-off games are there?

When it comes to spin-offs, Castlevania has a lot less than its main entries. This is an oddity for most series, although Castlevania has remained fairly true to its original style throughout its existence. This is especially true with Symphony of the Night, which re-emphasizes what the series did best.

And that’s why almost every spin-off in the Castlevania series is dramatically different. Let’s take a quick look.

For obvious reasons, the various Pachslot slot machine games are excluded from this.

We have gacha games, there are puzzle games and strangely enough there is even a fighting game. Do these games reflect what the Castlevania series is all about? Not really, no. But is it funny that they exist? Absolutely. Unfortunately, most of these games have not been given the same love by Konami, and this is the case much more difficult to access than their main relationships.

In total, There are seven Castlevania spin-off games.

How many Castlevania games are there in total?

The Castlevania series is mainly known for Symphony of the Night’s gameplay and graphics stylealthough they have explored a high degree of different genres and settings. Aria of Sorrow is set in the future (though not for long), while Portrait of Ruin features co-op gameplay. However, the majority still fall within the framework set by the earliest games.

With all that said, let’s see how many games there are in total:

  • 25 main entries.
  • Seven spin-off games.
  • That makes a total of 32 games in the series.

This number may shift slightly if you want to count more of the old remakesor some of the modified versions included in the many collections, although that’s a pretty solid number to represent how many games there are in the series.

Now the time has come a decade since the last main entry for Castlevania. Considering the longest break before that was only three years, it was a long wait. MercurySteam has proven its excellence in more traditional Metroidvania design. So why not hand the reins of Castlevania back to them for another try?
