Big Green had a solid first day at the Ivy League tournament


NEW HAVEN, Conn– On the first day of the Ivy League tournament, the Dartmouth men’s tennis team won two singles games and won two doubles teams.

Denny Bao And Carlos Guerrero Alvarez started the day with a double victory. They defeated a team from Penn 8-5 and will face a duo from Yale on Saturday.

Miles Groom And Waleed Qadir With an 8:5 win, they moved into the second round of the doubles tournament. After defeating a team from Harvard on Friday, they will face a team from Penn on Saturday morning.

Alex Knox Jones And Leo Pade played a back-and-forth doubles match. After a back-and-forth game, the duo lost 8-6 to a team from Harvard.

In individual combat Yujiro Onuma advanced to the second round with a two-set win over a player from Harvard. He won the first set 6-3 and closed the match with a 6-4 win in the second set. He will face a player from Yale on Saturday afternoon.

Guerrero Alvarez was the other Big Green player to move in the singles tournament. In the opening round, he faced Penn’s Justin Chung. He won the first set 6-4 and won the match with a 6-2 victory in the second set.

Pade fell to a Cornell player 6-4, 6-1 in the opening game of the singles tournament.

Bao faced a player from Princeton in the opening round. He fell 6-4 in the first set but bounced back with a 7-6 win in the second set. In the third set he lost 2:6.

Groom fell in his singles match on Friday when he lost the first set 1-6 and was unable to recover in the second set 3-6.

Dartmouth is back on the court Saturday as the Big Green look to advance in both singles and doubles.
