Plymouth, MA, fatal shooting Friday – NECN

A man was fatally shot in Plymouth, Massachusetts, on Friday afternoon, authorities said, and the suspected shooter was taken into custody.

Because the investigation into the incident near the intersection of Main and Middle streets was still in its early stages, few details were initially available.

The shooting was reported in a parking lot around 5:45 p.m., Plymouth police said. The unidentified suspect was arrested by the first officer on scene without incident; The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office said it was a 23-year-old man and listed the address as 35 Main Street – the address of a bar and grill.

The person who was shot was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth and was pronounced dead at about 6:28 p.m., authorities said.

Police said the person who was shot was 41 years old; Prosecutors said he was 40 years old. His name was not released pending notification of next of kin.

The police previously said the main road was closed due to the investigation. They also said there was no danger to the public.

Joel Burrelli was at the British Beer Company across the street from the shooting. He described witnessing the violence.

“He pulled out a gun and shot him at least twice,” Burrelli said. “He twitched violently, the man backed away and walked back towards his car.”

He says he saw the gunman approach the victim after shooting him.

“It looked like he was trying to resuscitate him – it was blocked by a pole at the time so I could only see him moving up and down – but I assume he assumed or realized what he had done, and then tried.” “Help the man,” Burrelli remembers.

Aerial footage shows two vehicles battling it out in the parking lot, and witnesses say the fight may have been the result of a fender bender.

“It looked like some kind of road rage incident,” Burrelli said. “Parking here sucks.”
