Have you ever lied to get a date?

Have you ever lied to get a date?

By Jim Thompson
HCP columnist

Have you ever lied to get a date? Or lie to avoid a date? I actually did that once. I was afraid. Fifty-eight years later, I confessed to her what I had done.

It wasn’t her fault I did that, and it wasn’t that she was unwanted as a date; She was just fine, the blame was mine alone and rooted in fear.

Right now there seems to be a bevy of sitting senators and a vice president who want to be president and are lying about their past record to convince you to vote for them.

They want you to believe they are moderate or even conservative. Some even say they sided with President Trump on certain issues when he was president. Really?

Example? In Ohio, an incumbent senator is up for re-election. If you are reading this column online, you can easily check his record for the last six years using the search function. The editor of The Highland County Press published many columns that this senator has edited. You can read it here and see for yourself whether what he says on the campaign trail today matches what he said last time in office.

The same goes for Kamala Harris. You won’t easily find her track record here, but there have been numerous articles here and elsewhere documenting her track record.

Today, as we sense that the electorate actually wants sensible fiscal policy, law and order, a responsible immigration system, and a few other things that sensible people often strive for, we are seeing liberal politicians twisting themselves into pretzels to win votes. And appear reasonable.

In an attempt to show her support for the Second Amendment, the Democratic vice presidential nominee has demonstrated his skill at loading a shotgun identical to that of Elmer Fudd. And another Democratic candidate’s dangerous actions actually caused a shrapnel wound.

You can rarely get away with lying when it comes to firearms.

Okay, you kids have no idea who Elmer Fudd is. Look at him.

But back to lying to get a date, or more importantly, being lied to by a potential date. How did that work out for you? Married and happily ever after?

Of course, the opposition constantly calls Trump a liar. Maybe I’m prejudiced, but I think he’s the ultimate exaggerator. The shrillest calls (remember the Russia dossier?) – well, it turns out Trump was right, he wasn’t lying.

In the same vein, Obama is now walking around thinking out loud about who caused all the division in this country. Maybe you need to look in the mirror, sir. What you are doing is a form of lying.

I leave you where I started. If you think about it, lying has absolutely nothing to do with successful dating or marriage. Keep this in mind when you vote.

Choose your candidates carefully.
