Judge sets bond at $50,000 for man charged with extortion in 2022 Hammocks HOA Investigation – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

SOUTHWEST OF MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – A man arrested for his alleged connection to the Hammocks Homeowners Association’s multi-million dollar fraud investigation appeared in bond court Friday.

The Miami-Dade District Attorney’s Office announced the arrest of Ivan Dario Diez on Thursday.

According to prosecutors, Diez is one of five HOA board members accused of extorting residents and stealing more than $1 million.

On Friday, Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy S. Glazer set his bail at $50,000. His bond was subject to a Nebbia freeze, meaning he must disclose the source of the collateral or funds deposited.

Prosecutors said the five-member group stole more than $6 million from residents of Hammocks in southwest Miami-Dade.

Monica Ghilardi, the former HOA vice president, and Myriam Arango Rodgers, the former HOA treasurer, pleaded guilty to grand theft and will cooperate with the investigation.

Authorities are calling on anyone else involved to come forward.
